Education
Education
This is our problem.
By the time they start school, a child born into a socio-economically disadvantaged family is already less likely to reach expected levels of intellectual development. Down the road, these gaps widen and can contribute to education and career attainment differences that are difficult or impossible to overcome. For children without access to education at all those outcomes are even worse.
Social/economic inequalities make it more difficult to access arts, media, and cultural sectors too, partially because these spaces still favor those who are well-off and connected, but also because entry-level opportunities can be prohibitively expensive.
Evidence suggests that most young people – even from disadvantaged communities – have high aspirations for themselves; most lack of achievement comes from the gap between those dreams and the knowledge, skills, and experience required to attain them. Our aim is to help bridge that gap.
This is how we help
- Build programmes to offer individualized guidance on the knowledge and skills helpful to achieving future goals in the arts/cultural sectors
- Organise programmes that build decision-making skills and improve self-efficacy
- Lead activities that teach how to use writing as a tool to communicate thoughts/beliefs
- Increase access to resources, equipment, extra-curricular activities, and cultural experiences
- Fund additional academic support
- Advocate for policy change that allows for educational access for everyone
This is how you can help
We have a big “it takes a village” mindset when it comes to our vision, which to refresh your memory, is to make the world fairer and more fun. That is our highest peak, and for now, there is no map or apparent route to it. Our theory is that we will need to climb a few smaller mountains to get there, and solving access to education and the arts is our first mission. This is, we hope, not a perpetual climb, but one that finds supporters, friends, and solutions.
If you’re an organisation or person that connects with what we do (or perhaps is already working toward a similar goal), we’d love to explore how we can help each other. We’ve included some ways you can get involved below.
Big organisations/media
- Sponsor an issue, a specific piece, or an event (get in touch at [email protected])
- Spread the word! Feature our work in your publications, broadcasts, or platforms.
- Collaborate with us on research and share data to help identify and address barriers to education & the arts.
Small organisations/individual people
- Subscribe to the magazine, come to events, participate in workshops/discussions; join our community!
- Volunteer – Sometimes we have call outs for specific roles/teams, but in general we could use the help of people with all sorts of interests/skill sets. Express your interest here.
- Share Wild Peach with a friend.
- Work with us to create a programme/event in your local community.
This list is non-exhaustive – it’s meant to get the ball rolling. If you’re interested in any of these suggestions, or want to pitch us an idea of your own send us a message: [email protected]
And a few more…

- Become a mentor or a peer tutor.
- Set-up a financial aid scholarship for a wild peach student.

- Keep making and sharing your art.
- Start a local reading group.
- Support the creative writers and artists we feature by following their work.
- Showcase your event/group in our newsletter.
Donate
Our work would not exist without donations from people who believe in our mission. Your support can make a real difference. Every donation helps us expand access to education and the arts, and more opportunities are created. Your contribution, no matter the size, is important.
